Dietrich Student Josh Opoku Brew Awarded Prestigious Fellowship

Joshua Brew a PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology in the Department of Music in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded a two-year Woodson Predoctoral Fellowship at the Carter G. Woodson Institute. The fellowship will be housed at the University of Virginia where Brew will work on writing his dissertation, “Gifts from Nature: Music, Indigenous Knowledge, and Ecological Sustainability in Ghana.” Brew’s research delves into African music, sound, and indigenous knowledge systems, employing ethnography and community involvement to champion environmental sustainability in Ghana.
