Student Research Teams Published in the Journal of Science Policy & Governance

Two student author teams from the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences in the Dietrich School have been published in the April issue of the Journal of Science Policy & Governance. The teams published their spring 2023 Geology 1312 Environmental Law and Policy class project policy papers.
Yasmine Florent, Mackenzie Nemoto, Ana Rowley, Maria Isabel (Isa) Villegas, and Vanessa Pratt published their paper “​Dangers of Oxybenzone in Sunscreens on Coral Reefs: Proposed Policy Approaches​” on how organic UV filters like oxybenzone pose a threat to coral reefs and what can be done to mitigate that damage. Ashlynn Moretti, Madilyn Cianci, Mina Kimak, and Savannah Johns also published their paper titled “Mitigating the Invasive Method of Hydraulic Fracturing Through a Phase Out Policy Plan​” which offers solutions to the issues caused in communities where fracking occurs.
