New Pitt Space Initiative for Faculty!

Exciting new space news at Pitt!  Work is underway on Pitt Space, a campus-wide initiative on space engineering, health, and science, focusing on both research and education.The primary purpose of Pitt Space is to help faculty become part of the space community and, if they are already, to help amplify their activities and achievements.

Thus far, the initiative has about 20 faculty members signed up from the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, all from the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and Geology and Environmental Sciences.

The Certificate in Children's Literature Program Holds its Research Consortium

The certificate in children's literature program held its Research Consortium on Global/Transnational Children's Literature on August 14 and 15. The event included participants from participants from Newcastle University, Ocean University of China, Antwerp University, Jadavpur University, and Deakin University. Events included:

- Talk by Xu Derong, Ocean University of China, “A Contrastive Study of Constructs of Childhood in Chinese and American Picturebooks”

Michael Ramsey Appointed to NASA for Their Science Development Team

Professor Michael Ramsey, a professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science in the Dietrich School has been appointed by NASA to be part of the science development team for the upcoming Surface Biology and Geology (SBG) Mission. SBG is one of the first missions being developed for NASA’s new Earth System Observatory (ESO), which will provide key information to guide efforts related to climate change, natural hazard mitigation, fighting forest fires, and improving real-time agricultural processes.
