Dietrich Geology Professor Interviewed for WESA Story

Daniel Bain, an associate professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science in the Dietrich School was featured in a WESA article Tuesday morning. The article, “Mount Washington landslide mitigation begins as climate challenges increase, " discusses how climate change has led to more rainfall in Pittsburgh than usual and how wetter conditions can lead to more landslide concerns.

Lina Insana and Team Awarded NEH Grant for Italian American Research

Student Research Teams Published in the Journal of Science Policy & Governance

Two student author teams from the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences in the Dietrich School have been published in the April issue of the Journal of Science Policy & Governance. The teams published their spring 2023 Geology 1312 Environmental Law and Policy class project policy papers.

When I heard about the project—since named HeritageRoots—and its goal of collecting and compiling indigenous narratives into a virtual experience, I was intrigued by its ambition. As a writing major, I saw the opportunity to study and adapt indigenous traditional knowledge as not only important work for cultural preservation, but a fascinating source of new knowledge to inform my own cultural understanding and writing.
